Mediterranean villa

As this was formerly our main residence (we are now living half the year in Somerset, UK), it has all the facilities for spacious and comfortable living. We have a large garden at the end of which stands a cottage, which may be occupied by our daughter, aged 29.

The accommodation consists of three double bedrooms forming a separate night area. The large master bedroom has twin beds, with a double bed in each of the other two bedrooms. There is a large en suite bathroom to the master bedroom and the third bedroom is en suite to the family bathroom, with a lockable door. Large living/dining room opening onto a fantastic terrace with views over the hills. Fully equipped kitchen. Large garage and utility room underneath the house.

We are house proud and careful "tenants", and are looking to exchange with like-minded people.

About the location

Our home is situated in a quiet residential area in the Gavarres foothills, two kilometres from the medieval village of Calonge and four kilometres from our local beach at Sant Antoni de Calonge.

Coast, beach and tourism: This is one of the most attractive parts of the Spanish coastline, with rocky coves alternating with long, sandy beaches. There are many four- and five-star blue flag bathing beaches in the area, some of which are little bays in picturesque seaside towns, or reached by coastal paths, whilst sweeping sandy beaches can be found in the larger seaside resorts. For the kids, there is a huge water park in nearby Platja d’Aro and the council organises an extensive programme of free family activities in summer. If you like architecture or history, there are many interesting sites in the area, including medieval villages, Romanesque churches, the Dali museum at Figueras (and other Dali sites) and the Greek and Roman ruins at Empuriabrava. Museums, art galleries and musical events are all on offer. It is only 40 kilometres to historic Girona, and Barcelona is a 120-kilometre drive away, or you can take a coach or scheduled bus.

Golf and walking: There are excellent championship golf courses within 30 minutes’ drive, ranging from par three courses to championship courses. There’s also a Pitch’n’Putt 10 minutes away. Our golfing neighbour would be happy to give you pointers. Walkers can stroll out from the house into the surrounding hills or to Calonge village, or perhaps wander the Catalan coastal paths or inland countryside.

Shops and restaurants: Palamos is a charming Catalan port, where you can watch the fishermen bring in their catch at the end of the afternoon. It has a wide range of restaurants, cafés, tapas bars and shops. Modern and cosmopolitan Platja d’Aro has many fashionable stores, cafés and restaurants, plus a lively nightlife. There’s plenty of affordable al fresco eating at our local beach or in any of the lovely seaside towns and villages in the area, and you can shop in bustling local markets, as well as the usual supermarkets.

The southern French border is just an hour’s drive away and you can be in the Pyrenees in two hours.

Our nearest airport is Girona (35-minute drive). Barcelona El Prat airport is 1½ hours away by car (or take one of the frequent local buses).
