Berkeley, Gloucestershire
We live in a classic Victorian semi detached cottage, simple and small. The living area is open plan, with a sitting room and dining room. There is a fitted kitchen. The front bedroom is big with a 6 foot bed and the rear bedroom is smaller with a standard double. Very comfortable for a couple but would be satisfactory for two couples or additional child. There are views front and rear across open country, to the west over the River Severn, (not visible)into the Forest of Dean, and to the east towards the Cotswolds escarpment. Outside we have a small garden at the rear where we eat most of our meals in the summer and a long garden leading to the road at the front. In classic Victoria style the property next door has a right of way across the back of our house, but it is rarely used.
About the location
Old Brookend is a quiet rural area. Two miles away is historic Berkeley. A lovely Georgian town with a medieval castle, still lived in by the same family for 900 years and open to the public in the summer. Edward Jenner, the father of immunisation, lived in Berkeley and there is a museum of his house and work, open in the summer. Close by is the massive River Severn and the Sharpness Canal - good places for an evening walk. Gloucester, Bristol can be reached by bus, Cheltenham and Cirencester are within easy reach by car. All these towns have cultural activities. We are on the edge of the Cotswolds, with its pretty villages and lovely walking. The area has good access to main roads and so to other areas of England.
