The Maisonette - London

Self-contained one bedroom flat with private roof terrace in my converted Victorian house in quiet tree-lined street, close to public transport (buses and underground to central London) and the great shops, cafes and amenities of Tufnell Park and Kentish Town. One minute from Tufnell Park tube station on the Northern Line. 10 minutes' walk from the green spaces of Parliament Hill Fields and Hampstead Heath. The international rail terminal at Kings Cross (for Eurostar to Brussels, Paris and the south of France) is a short bus or tube journey away.

Comfortable well-furnished flat with paintings, sculptures, some antique Tuscan furniture, books on Art, Architecture, History, maps, guidebooks and local information.
The flat is completely independent, situated at the back of the house and all windows look onto a secluded garden. It is on two levels, with no other floor above. You enter on the ground floor where there is a sitting room with a sofa, painted dresser, coffee table, lamps, TV, wicker chairs, bookcases, leading into a well equipped kitchen that seats three to four people. There are fitted storage units, an electric oven with gas hob, fridge with small freezer and a washing machine. Next door is the bathroom with bath, shower, wc, sink and a mirror covering one wall.
A wrought iron spiral staircase leads upstairs to the bedroom which has fitted wardrobes, a painted Tuscan bed, chairs, side tables and reading lights on either side of the bed and a table in a small alcove for writing or a computer. There is a second en suite wc. The bedroom has a glazed door opening on to a pretty private roof terrace with a garden table and two chairs.
The sitting room has a wooden floor and rug, the bedroom has a fitted carpet. Gas Central heating, video entry phone, wi-fi internet connection, TV with extra Freeview channels.

About the location

What I particularly enjoy about the location is its proximity to Hampstead Heath for walks and views over London: walks which take you to Keats House and Keats Library, Freud's House, Burgh House, Fenton House, Camden Arts Centre, Kenwood House with its paintings by Vermeer, Rembrandt, Hals, Van Dyck, Reynolds, Gainsborough and Constable (now re-opened after 18 months of impressive restoration work), Hampstead and Highgate Village, Highgate ponds and Lido for outdoor swimming throughout the year, Waterlow Park and atmospheric Highgate Cemetery where Karl Marx and many other famous people are buried. There is a good indoor local swimming pool and gym in Kentish Town. The British Library, University College London, Birkbeck College, SOAS, King's College, the City University, Courtauld Institute, British Museum, National Gallery, West End Theatres, Camden's Jazz Cafe, are a few stops down on the tube and there are buses both day and night.

There is also a good quick rail connection to Kew for the National Archive and Kew Gardens from nearby Gospel Oak station.

Local shops include Sainsbury's supermarket (7am to 11pm, 7 days a week), "Earth" - a Healthfood store, "Phoenicia" a multi ethnic supermarket, Butchers, Fishmongers, an Italian delicatessen, general 7 day grocery stores, newsagents, dry cleaners, beauty salons, yoga and Pilates centre and hairdressers, two gyms, cafes, restaurants, gastro pubs. Most are within a few minutes' walk. Our nearest local shops, cafes and restaurants have been singled out for praise in the Financial Times for 17/18 January 2015 in a piece by Nicholas Lander titled "Bienvenue -  NW5" which notes recent developments in the area. There is a Saturday Farmer's market nearby at Parliament Hill for organic produce from individual suppliers (praised by well known chef and restaurateur Giorgio Locatelli) and another one on Sundays in Kentish Town.
