Eco-housing community

We built our home in 2013 as part of a sustainable eco-housing community on the banks of the beautiful River Lune near the ancient city of Lancaster. Forgebank is situated on the outskirts of Halton, a small rural village, close to the M6 and an hour from Manchester airport. The house is a Passivhaus design with a zero carbon system of heating and ventilation, and is on a pedestrian street with shared gardens, which are child friendly and safe. The living and kitchen area is open plan with a private south-facing terrace . Upstairs are three bedrooms, one double with a south facing balcony and two single/double rooms, and a bathroom. There is also a separate toilet and washing area downstairs. Finally, there is provision for bikes, car-parking, and shared facilities including a laundry and access to 2.5 sq km of natural landscape along the river bank.

About the location

Halton is a small friendly village with local shops and community facilities including playgrounds and an activity centre for kids. The historic city of Lancaster is 4 km away by car or along a dedicated cycle track by the river. It has great places to eat and visit, including the mediaeval Castle and Priory, three museums, a local market twice a week, two cinemas and theatres, a swimming complex, cosy pubs, and parks and walks to explore. The surrounding area is stunning and includes the sea at beautiful Morecambe Bay, the mountains and lakes of the Lake District, the hills and moors of the Forest of Bowland and Yorkshire Dales, all within an hour's drive or accessible by bus and train.
