900-year-old stone house in magical South-of-France village

Our village was recently voted one of the three most beautiful in France. It's an ancient, mythical place, with tales of knights, hidden treasure, and a rugged wild beauty. Our home is full of old-world charm but also full of toys and games.The kitchen and living room are on the top floor to maximise the Mediterannean sunlight. With a patio off the kitchen you'll be eating outdoors to the song of cicadas.

Our village (google 'St-Guilhem-le-Desert images') is a UNESCO world heritage site and dates from the early middle ages. The setting is extraordinary and will appeal to aesthetes and outdoor-activity lovers alike. Historical and cultural visits abound (templar fortresses, cathar castles, ruined, abandoned villages etc). We have an exceptional farmers market nearby, so you'll eat well and wash it all down with great local wine.

About the location

Set amid olive groves and vineyards, the village of Saint Guilhem nestles in a valley in the foot-hills of the Cevennes.

Our region is rhythmed by the seasons: Spring for its fruit-tree blossoms and red fruit; Summer, with gingettes (restaurants with music and dancing) opening up along the nearby river, where everyone goes to swim. (A free shuttle bus service will you to the local swimming hole, if it's too hot to cycle). Autumn is the grape harvest, when traffic slows for the small tractors carrying their grape-load to the co-op. And winter, we have calm, with blue skies while we harvest the olives.

The village is pedestrianised, so it's very child-safe.
We've also a small, walled, terraced garden to corral the kids, the time for you to take apperitif...
